This past Sunday I participated in the PINK Bridal show at the Knoxville Convention Center. It was a blast. I got to reconnect with some vendors, collaborate with other vendors, and just have fun as a wedding planner. At the show I got to display some original ideas of mine in 4 different inspirational booths. I have noticed a trend in barn wood, mason jars, and dried flowers for weddings which are beautiful in their own respect. I have also noticed how this trend is being done over and over and being perceived as "original". It was original this time last year now it has become just a different way of doing weddings. My goal for these inspirational booths at the show was to introduced some more different weddings. I am a big fan of incorporating your personality into your wedding decor. For example I love fashion! Give me a black dress, with an over stated bow, some fabulous shoes, and I am in heaven! That is why I created a booth that has an elegant floral and natural feel but fashion is incorporated into the details. You might have noticed the bow ties around the vases, the shoes hanging off another vase or the amazing crystal cake. I encourage every bride to think outside the box of "original" and "different", and think in terms of "personality".

Cakes have always amazed me, how simple ingredients like sugar, flour, and eggs can become such amazing masterpieces. I admire those who can create these astounding edible sculptures. I recently stumbled upon a cake creator "The Caketress" who takes cakes to the fashion world. These cakes don't just have quilting, pearls, and swirls; but fabric pleating, textured skirts, exaggerated ruffles, rhinestone jewelry, and all the wonders of bridal attire.

I am always looking for new ideas, new creations, new inspiration that can be brought to the wedding world. Fashion is one of my favorite aspects to bring into the wedding world. Each person has their own fashion statement to make, and why not reflect it in your wedding. Wear fun crazy shoes, add jewelry to your bouquet,have a top hat with a birdcage veil, make your own fashion statement at your wedding.

Something old, something blue, and something NEW! No, it’s not spring cleaning time, but it is fall and change is in the air. In honor of my new business cards, a move to the future, I and my two interns took it upon ourselves to revamp the office this weekend. There is a little bit of old, with my grandmother’s china to glamour up the shelves. There are Navy and white walls, there’s the something blue; and I have a NEW look for you, my present and future brides. The office has been flipped upside down and with the new looks come the easy feeling of modern and sleek, with a mix of traditional and comfort all in one.
With wedding season right around the corner and the upcoming bridal shows and weddings, it is the perfect project to help get me in the mindset for new and creative ideas. I think that you will find the new look just as inviting as the service and creativity that comes along with it. I can’t wait to bring my brides and their families into this new environment.

I started my business full time in January of 2009, and it has been an amazing journey. I have done about 40 weddings, and more weddings are still to come. I feel that the business has blossomed into a designing business for weddings from a just wedding day coordinating business, and I couldn't be happier. Designing weddings is my favorite part; the customizing of details, the inventive flavors of the food, the always changing color scheme of the decor. I love making a unique wedding experience, not only for the brides and grooms, but for their guests.

In the event of my business growing we are having a face lift done. Same name, same fantastic services, but a more modern look. By the end of September we would have made the full transition, but for now here is a preview of our new look:

His & Her

I was recently put together some design ideas. One of my favorites was a His & Her design. For newlyweds they are all kinds of items labeled "His & Hers" or "Mr. & Mrs.", why not make this your wedding theme. Here I went with a colorful palette of navy, orange, and green, appropriate for any season, and kind of reminds me of a sports team. Instead of fluff and bows and ribbon I went with half the chairs decorated with men's neck ties, and half with white bows. With the menus why not give the men what they want, what man really knows what chicken marsala is? So I went with creating two separate but simple menus. For the men: Chicken wings and Potato Skins. For the Women: Lemon Dill Salmon and Blueberry Citrus Salad. Then why not continue with drinks, give the men a well brewed beer and leave the sweet martinis for the women. Make both parties happy and everyone can enjoy their time at the wedding!

Seth and Genevieve

I have had the pleasure of working with Genevieve and her mother Dian on Genevieve and Seth's wedding since December. It was wonderful to have a bride and mother team that worked so well together and strived to make the wedding what they wanted. The setting for the ceremony was Lake Hills Presbyterian Church . It was beautiful with traditional order of ceremony and natural decor of dogwood trees framing the wedding party. The reception was nothing but fun taking place under a tent in Dian's backyard. Guests were transported to the reception in school buses, a nod to the all the teachers in the family. The sounds of The Bearded live band, and the tastes of Home.Made welcomed the guests to a nothing but fun evening. The theme of "Firefly Formal" made by the brother of the bride, was carried through every detail from the mason jars guests used for their beverages to the chalkboard signs for menus, and potting seed favors. The reception was decorated with simple flowers in mason jars, with burlap topper linens, and completed with bistro hanging lights by All Occasion Party Rentals It was a joy to watch Julie Roberts capture each moment, and work with her finally! Navy-the new neutral

First there was white, then ivory. Everyone based their wedding colors around these two colors: sage green, pink, and white or blue, peach, and ivory. Soon people started considering black at weddings which led to so popular black, white, and hot pink or black, white, and red color schemes. Then brown came along or as people recognize at "Chocolate". Soon at weddings you were seeing pink and chocolate, sage green and chocolate, baby blue and chocolate, or just white and chocolate. This year the popular grey color was introduced into weddings. Grey has lead to Shabby Chic and Natural wedding themes. Brides are using grey to soften their bright colors and bridesmaids are enjoying wearing grey dresses compared to fuschia or butter yellow.

I am now declaring Navy as the newest neutral to come along. Navy is a very sophisticated, polished color. Think of it: navy with green apples, and pink peonies or orange, navy, and yellows or Navy with ivories and lavendars, or a monochromatic wedding of navy, royal blues, sky blues, turquoises,and baby blues. i am saying it now Navy is the newest neutral, consider it.

Photo Shoot

Royal Wedding

Yes I was proudly up at 3:45AM Friday morning to witness the royal wedding of Prince William and (now) Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton live. It was gorgeous! First there was the fun look at all the hats and fascinators the female guests were wearing. Then there was the dashing groom and best man in their formal uniforms.

The church was adorned with simplistic decor: Trees were brought to decorate the main nave. The tree decor was a request from Catherine to represent her upbringing in the country, and she assisted in selecting each tree from royal estates, including the Queen's own garden. Traditional floral arrangements consisted of rhododendron, azaleas, lilacs,and wisteria.

The wedding party was dressed simply and most elegant. The maid of honor, Pippa Middleton wore an ivory sheath with flowers in her hair. Here in the U.S. most people would see this as a major
"uh-oh". In this setting it was gorgeous! Pippa's simplistic dress did not out do the brides gorgeous, timeless gown.

Catherine was dress in a Alexander McQueen silk gown that had amazing resemblance to Grace Kelly. The full skirt was accented with lace, buttons, pleating and a modern ruffle effect in back which went perfect with the 9 foot long train. The bodice was English cut and chantilly adorned with lace that continued as an illusion neckline and sleeves. She wore a simple fingertip length veil with a lace edging.

Her hair was in a modern small chignon with most hair down and loosely curled.
A surprise, the bride took lessons and performed her own make-up for the wedding day. Her bouquet consisted of lily of the valley, sweet william, and a traditional spring of myrtle from the same myrtle plant Queen Victoria had in her wedding bouquet.

Something Old: The lace design handmade by the English School of Needlework using an old Carrickmacross lace-making technique.
Something New: her earrings, which consists of an oak leaf and acorn symbolizing the Middleton's New Coat of Arms
Something Borrowed: Her tiara designed by Cartier. A Halo tiara originally given to The Queen's mother by her husband and presented to the current Queen Elizabeth on her 18th birthday.
Something Blue: Blue ribbon that was working into the design of Catherine's train and buttonwork.

The wedding was gorgeous and simply nothing to complain about, in my opinion. I can't wait to see how this wedding will influence future weddings.

Rachel and Justin's Wedding

Last weekend I got the chance to bring Rachel and Justin's wedding to life. Their reception took place at the Laurel Theater on Laurel avenue, and their reception took place at The Emporium Art Gallery on Gay Street. With the Dogwood Art Festival opening over the same weekend we only had 3 hours to set-up the reception and had some great scultpure artwork as part of the decor around the room. 125 guests celebrated with the bride and groom throughout the entire evening. Some special details were their sginature drink: Lynchburg lemonade; each table was named for a city the Bride & groom loved to visit; the groom's cake was a tribute to the groom's love of fast food, a cheeseburger. Flowers were done by Always In Bloom Rentals by All Occasions Party Rentals Bartenders The Pour Guys and all place cards,escort cards, menus, and programs done by April Wireman Designs

Where to put your money at your wedding

As part of my job I manage people's budget and keep them on track with bill due dates and amounts. Unfortunately, part of my job is also letting brides and the party responsible for the budget know when their expenses have overspent the set budget amount. Balancing your budget is a game of picking and choosing where you want to spend money and where you are willing to cut. If you have budgeted $1200 for your wedding gown and you spend $2000, you then must cut $800 somewhere else in your budget.I encourage clients to have a set overall budget, visit vendors and talkto them about what you truly want. Then take the cost of what you really want from vendors and total it up. Does it exceed your budget or do you have a little wiggle room?

I heard on a primetime show that in planning a big event "put your money in your guests face" meaning invest your money in what the guests are truly going to look at. Some aspects guests will definantly pay attention to at a wedding are: the wedding gown, the centerpieces, the food, the cake, overall color scheme, and much more. More than anything the guests will pay attention to how they were treated and how the event was orchestrated. Was it a wedding truly reflecting you and your groom's personalities? Was it a wedding reflecting ideas from everyone else's wedding? Was it another cookie cutter wedding? Make your wedding, YOUR wedding and spend your budget on items guests will notice and how to make those items original.

One of my favorite budget friendly ideas is the world of glassware: You can find glassware at goodwill and garage sales very easily. Use glassware for displaying items or simply as centerpieces, especially if you are using candles. The reflective surface will reflect the candle glow more than the candle alone.

i know I have posted about displayin cakes on vintage furniture, but recently I have had brides not going for a too eleborate icing/fondant design for their wedding cakes. Brides are focusing more and more on how the cake is displayed rather than the design of the cake. Sam Franklin and I recently designed a cake being displayed on glassware and submerged orchids.What is your wedding theme and color scheme how could you display your cake; on a tree long with moss, on various glassware, on vintage furniture, on a stack of books, on hat boxes with various shoes around the cake base? Whatever flavor your wedding cake is or the design that has been piped on the sweet icing, make your stand out with a unique and clever cake display.

University of Tennessee vs. Weddings

It seems this year there was an upset between brides and the Univeristy of Tenessee. The university set their fall footbal schedule and October 1st was scheduled has an off weekend for Tennessee football. When the schedule was actually published the university swtiched the off date to September 24th. Brides are not happy. I have found many brides who booked their wedding locations and set their date for October 1st to accommodate their fiance's love for football. Now there is a football game on October 1st and fiances'are bummed they will miss their game.

Fortunately brides feel like they should reflect the love of UT and football in their wedding decor, but do not want their wedding to say "yes we are having a UT themed wedding." Here are some ideas I found to pull a look together.
1. use orange as an accent with another strong color like turquoise, hot pink, bright green, or cranberry red.

Welcoming Spring Weddings

I love spring and fall. They are my favorite seasons. It is warm enough to wear jeans and a tank top, but cool enough to enjoy the outdoors.Spring is now in Knoxville and that means wedding season is here.

For a wedding planner and/or vendor here is how our calendar works. We have wedding season, booking season, and what I like to call"gather your brain season." April thru early November is wedding season: That's when all the weddings for the year actually take place. November thru December it's Gather your brain season:Janury thru March it's planning/booking season; when we book most of the weddings for the year.

So spring is here which means all the weddings I have planned and designed will soon to come life. It is exciting to think about and even more exciting to see. All the colors, the ceremonies, and the reception tables, the favors, and Oh the place cards! Buckle up it is going to be a fantastic wedding season!

In my job I am constantly going to meetings. From scheduling consultations with clients, consultations with vendors for my clients, to meetings to further my business I am constantly on the go. I always tell my husband that I live in my car most days. I always like to cater to my clients' schedules and their wedding needs, but I know sometimes schedules will conflict. I wish there was a schedule fairy that could make me be in 3 places at once and attend all appointments whenever they were scheduled. Oh how life would be with a personal fairy and a magic wand for all of us.

I am loving some of the trendsfor weddings. I always love new ideas and new ways to just display traditional items andmake them look vintage,modern,and chic. with wedding cakes a new way to display the traditional tiered wedding cake is on a unique piece of furniture. I love the idea of a bride's grandmother's dresser serving as the wedding cake's platform. Maybe it was the dresser where the grandmother let the bride play in her jewelry and pratice putting on lipstick. Think about if your family or friend has a unique piece of furniture with maybe a great story that you can incorporate into your wedding plans. Even display items on the furniture around the cake to tell a story.Tell a story about the women of the family and display you and your groom's grandmothers' and mothers' china as well as your own. You could also display black and white photos of you and your grooms' friends. As always I encourage you to think outside the box.

Just about every vendor I know is designing new booklets, packages,and business cards. I am doing the same. I have new business cards now, and I am redesigning my packages and booklets. Of course I love changing things up so I can never sitck with a design. What do brides look for in viewing packages or booklets from vendors? What styl should I go with. I adore details at a wedding. I love to look at every little thing at a wedding to see how much detail the bride and groom put into the wedding.I also ask the question "What makes this wedding unique?" I believe every wedding should be an experience. Yes we all know there is a first dance and cake, but the centerpieces, the linens, even a floorplan can be different and makke your guests say Wow! At the weddings I design I want the guests to say "Wow, I would have never thought to do that!"

I can't begin to tell you how much excitement I have for my 2011 wedding season. I am in love with all my weddings. I have a rustic elegance wedding where guests are arriving at the reception from the ceremony in school buses (a nod to all the teaching members of the family);a destination wedding happening in Charleston, SC; A modern, south meets california wedding with charcoal greys and fushcia; Preppy and polished navy and green wedding with hydrangea and green apples in July; A fun swing dancing wedding where gerber daisies and rock candy are centerpieces; a formal, glamour, incredible black tie wedding with mirror top tables, simple glassware with white orchids andpeacock feathers; and a colorful fall wedding at the Foundry with candlelight and a formal dinner!

I am so excited! I have design ideas coming our of my ears and keeping me up at night, and yes I am excited about it.

Now that the waters have started to calm from the Premier Bridal Show I wanted to let you know of how you can continue to gather information about venues and vendors.

At the Premier Bridal Show I spoke on stage and presented 2 topics that I believe brides truly need to think about: 1. Hiring Professionals 2. Your Budget and not to be afraid. Being realistic there is an entire list of questions, concerns, and topics brides should know about when planning their wedding. In my experience most brides do not understand what questions they are to ask vendors in initial consultations.For example do you know how many hours on your wedding day you will need your photographer to stay? Do you know if your venue can not hold but seat all your guests?

I have assisted in designing a Bridal Boot Camp with Enchanted Details Boutique that is taking place for 12 weeks to answer all your questions and make you a better educated bride.Each week is designated for a different topic and led by a professional. Topics include, Venues, Planners, Wedding gowns & Tuxes, Photography & Videography, Cakes, Bar & Signature Drinks, Invitations & Placecards, Flowers, Rentals, Catering, Etiquette, and more!

The Bridal Bootcamp is FREE to all and the first workshop starts tomorrow January 26th. Each workshop is 6-8pm at Enchanted Details Boutique in the Downtown West Shopping Center.

Post Bridal Show

The Premier Bridal Show was a hit and a blast! I had alot of fun talking and chatting with all different kinds of brides. After the show I contacted some brides to confirm appointments and alot of brides akept saying similar things " I think I have your booklet". "What did the booth look like?" " I might have written your info down."

The brides don't speak this way out of any type of disrespect but they are just as bombarded by us as we are by them. This why I try to help brides out and write their consultation appointment on the front cover of the booklets I hand out.

So to all you brides out there who don't know what to do with the booklets, brochures, and cards from the Bridal Show: Empty out the bags of goodies and go through them. If they have any hand written notes like appointments, disocunts, or promotions keep them. Research these vendors from their websites, blogs, facebook. See if you would use their services or not. Then plan what you will do next. If you have scheduled a consultation you might want to keep it. You can at least gather more information about them and get any questions answered. Most businesses don't require you to agree to anything at an initial consultation.

I want to say thank you to everyone a part of the Premier Bridal Show> We had a fantastic show. We gave out over 400 booklets and talked to about 500 brides! We made alot of consultations and we are looking forward to a fabulous 2011 season!

I spent about 6 months designing our booth intensely and loved every moment. I could not have made the booth the way it did without the help of some fabulous vendors: Samuel Franklin Florist, All Occasions Party Rentals,and Sugarbuzz Custom Cakes. Thank you to my kind and generous friends Micah Damron who always keeps my head on straight in stressful times, and to Dani Rose for documenting my booth design and giving me excitement about my business.

Thank you to Premier Bride for giving me and my business such an opportunity by assisting in creating a top ten list that I presented on stage at the Bridal Show. I had a blast talking to brides about their budgets and hiring professionals.

I logged into my blog page to post a new post and idea. I went to see options for changing the look (curiousity), and poof, my blog page went away. I didn't know what I pushed so I couldn't figure out to get it back. No undo button and I am all of a sudden launching a blog page that looks like a book club. Gearing up for 2011 season! I am accepting bookings for the 2011 wedding season. It is the time of year where phone calls, emails, and consultations are starting to get crazy. Many people get engaged over the holiday season making December and January a busy busy time for vendors and their calendars. If you are looking to get engaged, recently got engaged, or are planning for a spring/summer 2011 wedding you need to get one the ball. Start researching vendors you want to meet with and get on their calendars for initial consultations. Don't know where to go for vendors? There are tons of resources in Knoxville to help with this. There are the newest trend, resource boutiques. There are several in town, but a great one is Enchanted Details. Enchanted Details is a boutique where you can find vendors for every aspect of your wedding, but you can also get some great design ideas. There are books, magazines, and even internet. Karen and Chuck's wedding happened on an unexpected cold fall day, November 6, 2010. Even though we had unseasonably cold weather, hundreds (literally) of turkey vultures circling above, and daylight savings time everyone stayed in good spirits. I first met Karen and Chuck in January of 2010, and they were unaware of what planning a wedding was going to be like. They both lost their spouse in recent years and had found each other. If it was up to them they would have eloped, but they wanted to make their families a part of their wedding. First it was small and intimate and then grew. They had so much faith in me they allowed me to select linens, flowers, china, silverware, programs, and menus for them. They did not lay eyes on my selections until the wedding day had arrived. We went with a color palette of plums, burgundies,chocolates, and oranges. The theme was intimate, elegant, autumn. I added some great details like: the apples holding the placecards and other signage, the menus at each place setting which also had a thank you on the back from the bride and groom, and the wish tree instead of a traditional guestbook. The bride and groom requested 2 items: 1. mustaches at each place setting for guests to use for fun photos, and 2. three cords that they braided during the ceremony instead of a unity candle. I have to recognize Samuel Franklin for the amazing florals. All Occasions Rentals for being patient and going all the way for this wedding. Sugarbuzz Cakes for creating 2 cake masterpieces. Bustles in Dresses

Recently I did a wedding where the bride had a gorgeous Maggie Sottero dress. The bodice was beaded and the skirt was bubbles with accents of beading. After the ceremony and photo she was ready to dance at the reception. She asked me to bustle her dress and I gladly lifted up the upper part of the skirt and searched for loops and hooks. I didn't find any. I didn't find anything, no ribbons, no buttons, no threads, nothing. I simply asked the bride what seamstress she took her dress too and what alterations she had done. She explained to me she had them take in the neckline and hem the dress. I asked if the seamstress showed her how the bustle worked, she said No. I then had to ask if she had even talked to the seamstress about a bustle and she said "No, because this dress came with a bustle."

Brides please note wedding dresses do not usually come with a bustle built in. A few companies come with a "pick-up" or "American" bustle which consists of a button and a simple small thread. The thread is usually located down the middle seam of the skirt and simply loops around a button or hook at the bottom of the bodice.

This is a bustle but not a reliable one. It easily falls and usually doesn't hold the weight of A-line skirt. Plus if you are wanting to dance it won't hold. If you opt for this bustle have it reinforced or other hooks added to give it a more elaborate look and it will hold thru your wedding.

The other most popular bustle is a french bustle. It is done by a series of loops hooks or ribbons located on the under skirt of the dress. It is not seen unless the outer skirt is lifted. A bridesmaid, planner, or dedicated friend needs to practice bustling the skirt in the proper way because it can get confusing if you don't know what you are doing. It is simple, some people just get overwhelmed when they see the loops and ribbons and don't know how they go. A full skirt, or A-line will definitely be the best kind of dress requiring this bustle. A seamstress will have to install this kind of bustle. It is sturdy and will hold no matter how much you dance.

Recently was the Premier Bridal Show at the Knoxville Convention Center. I have heard mixed reviews about this show. I am a firm supporter of Premier Bride and have participated in past shows. I am currently designing and planning for my booth at the January Premier Bride Show.I am so excited and thrilled about my booth design. Although I design my booths to capture a bride's attention, I want it to be beneficial to brides. I am now asking the question-What do Bride's want to see or gain from a Bridal show? As a wedding planner what do bride's want to get accomplished at my booth? Do bride's just want information about me or do they want general information about wedding planning and what it can do for them? Crazy Summer

I hope everyone in the wedding world is surviving. I have been crazier than ever! But crazy is good in my business. I have fallen behind on blog posts and facebook status due to everyhting that ahs been going on. First it is wedding season and I have some big ones coming up! I am so excited about them all, and I am still signing brides for the fall! I have been Charleston, SC for a wedding on Folly Beach. Once I returned I found myself and my husband living in boxes because we moved 1 week after returning to West Knoxville. We now have a house in the West Knoxville area!! I am so excited. Then in the midst of moving my husband landed a new job! It is a great news but the schedule is totally different form his last job. It has been interesting getting used to it.

We love our new home. I am in the process of converting the downstairs bonus room into my home office where clients can come and have meetings with me. I don't know yet when it will be fully ready for clients but keep an eye out for it!!

Hopefully now I can get things organized and back on the right track!

After months of planning, changing many details, and managing a strict budget Teresaann and Glenn Fisher were married. It was a gorgeous spring day. The ceremony and reception took place at Knoxville Botanical Gardens. The ceremony took place in a small private area of the gardens next to the office's house. For the reception the bride and groom chose the natural greenhouse area and we added a tent to provide more seating for guests. Thanks to Echelon Florist for the vibrant flowers; to Sugarbuzz Bakers for the delicious cream cheese cake; and to Dani Rose Photography who always does great work and who I love working with!

DIY: Do It Yourself Projects

Do It Yourself projects have always been a part of weddings. Since the economy took a wrong turn, DIY projects have become more and more popular. Some DIY projects are great ways to save money and great to do yourself, some others leave it to the professionals.

Good DIY to do yourself:
Place cards: Creating place cards yourself are great! You can usually print these off your home computer and can create great ways to display them. For a fall wedding you can make the guests name a leaf on an apple.

Wish Tree: Wish trees are becoming more and more popular. If you are unfamiliar wish trees take the place of a guestbook. Guests write some sort of best wish or congratulations to the bride and groom and then hang it on a tree display. These you can do yourself. If you are looking for a raw natural look you can use natural branches. If you want a nicer look you can order branches. Take the branches place them in a tall slender vase tightly. Make cards about 3 x 5 and thread very small ribbon through each card for guests to hang the card by.

Favors: You can do all kinds of things for favors yourself. Get the bridesmaids and family involved and can fruit. You can put monogram labels on your favorite wine bottles, soda bottles, or snack treat. I once heard about a wedding that gave their guests twinkies with their monogram on the package. You can also create your own candy bar. All you need is unique glassware, candy, and containers

Leave it to the professionals:

Food: You would not believe what it takes to make a buffet or plated dinner function for a 100 people. Yes you have to have the food, the warming containers, the plates, napkins, utensils, cups, and ice, but you have to prepare the food at the right time to make sure it is not overcooked nor undercooked. The preparation time is going on usually when the ceremony is happening. Plus during the reception you have to make sure the food is constantly replenished,not getting cold. Plus after the event you are in charge of all clean-up of the food, prep area, and even the trash!

Rentals: Buying or renting a tent is a common request from brides & grooms. First you want to rent the tent. Professional rental companies have the right structures and sizes for your event. Remember you don't only fit tables and chairs, you night fit a bar, a dancefloor, a buffet, a cake table, a gift table, and a favor table under a tent. Professionals know the exact square footage you will need. As for setting up the tent, Yes you want a pro to do it. One is liability. If you set the tent up and it falls on your guests, or the wind blows it out the ground or a rope comes lose you and you alone are held liable for any injuries or damage. Professionals will make sure the tent is stable ans secured, but please remember natural law of science occur. If extreme high winds (like straight or tornado winds) occur get your guests out of the tent. Professional rental companies are usually familiar with various venues and can suggest items to make the event safe and enjoyable for all your guests.

Flowers: Yes bouquets and boutonnieres are flowers that will probably die after the wedding, but I have witnessed first hand DIY flowers. Some flowers are very sensitive and cannot just be cut and tied with ribbon. Hydrangea are popular for spring and summer but these flowers need a water source at all times or they will wilt easily.Roses are stable flowers, but if they are open too much the petals will fall off before your even go down the aisle. Professional florists will make sure the flowers for your wedding will sustain the outside elements and look gorgeous!

Hair styles

In the midst of details for a wedding some details seemed to get pushed aside and aren't truly considered. Hair style is one of those. One of my biggest pet peeves at a wedding is watching the bride dance at her reception and one by one her beautiful updo starts coming down, and by the end of the night it looks like an updo with random pieces frizzy and dangling. I always carry bobby pins, hairspray, and other tools for making sure my brides' hair are beautiful all evening.

Don't let your hairstyle be a quick impulse decision. Sometimes the hair style you love won't hold up in the atmosphere of your wedding.

For a beach wedding especially during the summer months, alot of brides opt for a lose curl down hairstyle.Well on the beach you have heat and humidity. With heat and hunidity you will probably also be sweating, plus there is usually a wind off the ocean. So if you go with a long lose curl all down hairstyle be prepared for the hunidity to frizz your hair, for your neck to be sweaty due to the heat built up under your hair, and for your hair to be blown and stick to your sweating face. If you want a casual beach look consider a lose unstructured pin-up look. You could have it pinned to the side and add a flower.

Consider your hairstyle for the ceremony and reception. Brides still choose a veil for the ceremony, and brides think about what their hair will look like with a veil, but what will it look like if you are to take the veil off for the reception. Look at adding a great hairpiece to your do for the reception. You still want to look like a bride at your reception and not lose your look.

Always do a trial for your wedding day with a professional. You do not want to chance your hair looking bad for your big day. Schedule a consultation and trial run for your hair, most salons will work out a pacakge deal for you to do a trial and then again for your wedding day. Voice your opinion if you truly do not like what is done. Although a friend is great at hair, leave your wedding day to a professional. Have your friend be your hair stylist after you leave the profesional. They can do touch-ups be like a hair monitor during your photos.

In the end choose a hairstyle you love and are comfortable with!

New Color!

Has anyone heard of Plum? It has been a favorite color of mine for years. I think in fashion just about any complexion or hair color can pull off the color of plum. Plum is a dark, dark purple. Some people know it as eggplant.

Plum is turning out to be a great color for weddings. Not only can all the bridesmaids pull off a plum colored dress, but plum can be paired with a color for every season.

Use PLUM and RED:
Plum and red are dramatic and perfect for a classic fall or winter wedding

You can also use Plum, Red, and a royal purple for more of a summer wedding

For a fresher look use plum with a bright fresh green. This color can work from spring to fall.

If you are truly scared of the plum color use it in a classic way of a neutral. Use it in as you would black and white, but plum & white. Use it with Ivory and chocolate brown. You can also use it in a jewel tone scheme or you can choose a monochromatic scheme with navy, periwinkle, and ivory.

Open your eyes to the plum color!

Try Something New!

This year in wedding planning I have taken some venues to a new level and open doors to new ideas. First with a wedding I am planning at Holston Hills country club. After long and complicated emails I found out the venue coordinator, Jim Disney, and I were talking about 2 totally different ideas. Jim was talking about rows of 8 ft. tables side by side, I was talking about putting 8 ft. tables end to end creating the look of 3 40foot long tables. I will never forget the expression on Jim's face. He simply said "We have never done that before." I asked what the measurements of the room. We found it would work with plenty of space. Once the idea settled into Jim's mind he turned to me and realized how many more people we could fit in the main room. With a basic 72 inch tables set-up the most we could fit is 116 people seated. With 3 40 foot long tables we will be able to fit 150 people seated.

I have another wedding at Botanical Gardens here in Knoxville. Once the ceremony site was picked on the property the venue coordinator once again said "We have never done a ceremony over here." The space was perfect for the type of wedding the bride and groom want.

Most recently, I signed a wedding happening at Maple Grove Inn. Vicki and I talked about doing the long banquet tables in the covered reception space. She said that she is very open to the idea but that they do not have enough 8 or 6 foot tables to create the look and we would have to rent the tables. Due to budget the bride and groom decided on using the regular 60 inch tables. On my last visit to the Maple Grove Inn Vicki mentioned to me that she has had more phone calls about brides wanting to do the long banquet style tables for their reception. I could see the wheels turning in her head, "maybe we should get more tables if this is what brides want."

As a wedding planner part of my job is designing a wedding to make the guests think it is gorgeous and nothing like the last wedding they attended. I try my best to do new things and try new things in terms of design. Just changing the size and shape of tables or changing a field wedding to a secluded garden area can make all the difference. Wedding Dresses

I love and have become a huge fan of TLC's "Say Yes to the Dress". The gowns are gorgeous and watching brides choose their wedding dress and see why they chose certain dresses is so fascinating to me. Some excuses I hear on the show and in my job are 3 main complaints when picking the wedding dress.

Yes, you will probably only wear the wedding gown once. It is only one day but realize the bride will wear the gown for about 8-12 hours. Once you start photos before the ceremony a bride will wear it typically til they leave the reception. Although it is one day it is a alot of hours to be in one dress. Make sure the dress is comfortable and the fabric is a good quality fabric, it will make a difference.

Yes it is a big decision you don't want to get wrong. Every bride I have met has the fear of picking the wrong dress. There are 10,000,000 wedding dresses out in the world, all different some how. Start by finding a cut that flatters your body, then move onto adornment you like (lace, beading, applique, rhinestones, crystals, etc.)Finally, narrow your choices to your top 3. It is a process. Make sure your dress makes you feel your best.

Yes, the bride is the one wearing the dress. For a bride,it is very important to have friends and family with them when they select their wedding dress. When there is a lot of people, there is a lot of opinions. A bridesmaid might not think lace is the bride's thing, or the mother of the bride might think a trendy style is not a good idea. In the end it is the bride wearing the dress. The bride should decide what dress she will wear down the aisle on her wedding day.

If a bride picks a dress that she know is poor quality, a wrong fit, and isn't the #1 dress she would have picked, it will show in the wedding photos. Make sure you say "yes" to the dress YOU choose.

Don't knock the Details

In the midst of the wedding planning details get left out. Most brides think of tables and chairs, buffet vs.sit down, indoor or outdoor, simple or frilly, white or ivory. Most brides skimp on the details that make the wedding unique. These are the details that your guests will remember. Every wedding can have centerpieces, chair covers, chair ties, a wedding cake, the little touches are what will set your wedding apart from others. Here are some ideas:

1. Make your favors part of the table decor. Use monogrammed or colored boxes stack them up in the middle of the table or down the table. Candy bar favors have become very popular, so put the candy in various glass containers on the guest tables and it will make a conversation piece for your guests.

2. Beverage bars. Most weddings have wine and beer bars, especially if dinner is being served. Instead of a wine and beer bar have a beverage bar, or add a special beverage to your wine and beer bar. Make the beverage a special one like a Jones soda, or a cherry limeade or a classic shirley temple. Something non-alcoholic but more special than iced tea and water.

3.Tell your guests of the details. Guests are usually seated about 30 minutes before the processional. Give them something to read and learn about your wedding. On the back of the program tell your guests of some details to look for and details that make your wedding special to you and your groom. Some examples:

"Welcome to our wedding! We have customized our wedding to be a truly unique event:
The bride's bouquet consist of 4 small bouquets which each have a special fortune. Make sure to catch a fortune at the reception!
The groom's cufflinks reflect his favorite superhero, superman.
The flowers in the bouquets and centerpieces are the same breed of hydrangea and orchids that the bride's parents grow at their home
The cake design consists of the bride and groom's monogram in a unique pattern
The bride and groom participated on their favorite summer activity to create the favors, canned peaches!

Movie Wedding Planner vs. Real Life Wedding Planner

When I tell people that I am a wedding planner, the first response I get 99% of the time is "Oh, like Jennifer Lopez!" I love the movie The Wedding Planner. It is a great romantic comedy, and who can resist Matthew Mcconaughey? I don't like the idea of wedding planners the movie has put on us real life wedding planners. Some is true: the emergency kits, ready for any moment, creates visions that are spectacular. Some are false: being pushy and rude, caring more about a timeline than the happiness of the bride and groom, and costing a fortune.

I find brides looking at my prices and saying "Wow, that is not what I was thinking, you aren't thousands and thousands of dollars!" I am a planner who strives to meet every bride's budget. Why should only the super wealthy benefit from a wedding planner? I have worked with weddings from $5,000 to $40,000.

Maybe there will a movie one day highlight the joys of being a wedding planner!

A tip for all brides that attended: Go through all the information you gathered stack them into piles, all florists, all tuxes, all rentals, etc. Then narrow your choices down. Some vendors spent a good deal on their brochures and it will show. For the brochures you decide to keep and vendors you like, look on their website, email them, schedule consultation. It is a first step to dealing with the mounds of information and deciding which vendors you will use for your wedding.

What's going on today!

Oh the holidays have come. I am a person that is very excited about the holidays and had fun designing my home for the holidays. Now it seems the fun part is over until I get to open gifts. I am expecting a niece around December 15th!!!! My sister has reached full term and we are just waiting. I am really excited but I know once my niece arrives things will be moving at a fast pace. First the niece, then Christmas(Yepee!!) then the Premier Bride Show.

If you haven't heard the Premier Bride show will be happening January 10, 2010 at the Knoxville Convention Center. I am always look forward to it. I know it is alot of work and I always overspend my budget, but it is fun! Mingling with brides, designing a booth, keeping up with trends, and networking with other vendors, I love every moment! Although we can plan every detail of the wedding for brides, we can do things to make the planning process easier for you. We stand up for what you want to your vendors; We dissolve issues that might arise through the planning process and especially on the wedding day; We are your advocate and assist you anyway you need us to! One bride of mine said to me "It seems you have accomplished being in two places at one time, and you are like having my own personal assistant on the most important day of my life." Anesity and Ryan were married in gorgeous ooutdoor setting! Aneisty was lucky to have friends of the family that had a spectacular outdoor setting, including a rock waterfall. Aneisty was passionate about the flower aspect of the wedding. Orchids, roses, and daisies were mainly used for the arbor, kissing balls, and aisle decor. Aneisty & Ryan planned to meet each other before the ceremony to fit as many family photos in as possible before the ceremony. It worked out perfect. The greatest challenge of the day was lining up the wedding party which included, 7 bridesmaids, 7 groomsmen, 2 Jr. Bridesmaids, Jr. Groomsmen, 2 Flower girls, 2 ringbearers, 3 mother, 2 father, and 6 grandmothers. The bride arrived to her ceremony in style, on the back of a silver Porsche. Her father and Step-Father walked her down the aisle. The wedding was beautiful, even the weather. Although we were expecting normal hot & humid July weather we were blessed with a pleasant breeze all day and a high temperature of 75! Photography by Saprina captured the wedding photos. I had the pleasure of coordinating Kari Clifton & Justin McCosh's wedding July 11, 2009. Kari and I met while I was coordinating her cousin's wedding. It was a joy to assist Kari and Jstin through the planning process and create a wonderful wedding day for them. On the wedding day everyone was in a great mood. The groomsmen tried their best to send me over the edge and played some good harmless jokes on me. The bridesmaids all cried when Kari reached around the church door to hold Justin's hand. Justin & Kari were not able to lay eyes on one another but both cherished the moment.The ceremony took place at Eastminster Church on Asheville Hwy. Kari & Justin chose a traditional but personal ceremony. Uncle Don walked Kari down the aisle to her mother and sister, who then escorted her to the groom, Justin. After the ceremony Kari & Justin couldn't stop smiling! All guests joined to celebrate at Holston Hills Country Club. It was beautiful. The tables were decorated with white linens and hydrangea blooms while the chairs were accented with green bows. The cake was just what the bride ordered complete with their monogram and daisies. The groom's cake showed off the love Justin has for baseball and the Atlanta Braves. The night ended with dancing to Michael Jackson and the Cupid Shuffle. Amanda & Carl got married in Historic Jonesborough, TN. .The International Storytelling Center served as the ceremony site and reception site The day was beautiful! Amanda wore a white halter cross-back satin dress with lace accents. Her earrings were truly unique looking like rhinestone fireworks, a fashionable statement. The wedding party made a bright colorful statement with white gowns and turquoise sashes for the ladies' and black tuxes with turquoise bow ties & vests for the men. Gorgeous cascading flowers decorated the white sheer canopy setting for the ceremony. Turquoise chair sashes and coral centerpieces made a huge splash at the reception. Guests dance about with star lanterns above them. Main Street Catering was divine in their food and service. Guests indulged in pasta, prime rib, bruschetta, and salmon. Carl showed how much he loved he job by having a Verizon blackberry phone groom's cake. The bride awwed over her floral cascading spiraled orange wedding cake. Merry & Kevin were married at Church Street United Methodist Church with a reception at L&N Station. There were a few bumps in the road on our way to the wedding day but everything came together perfectly. The wedding was traditional, elegant, and beautiful. The flowers by Samuel Franklin were gorgeous, I think every guest asked me who did them! The bride & groom chose Rex Bradford Jones for catering. He saved the day after our bump in the road! His menu was perfect for Merry & Kevin and everyone loved his service! Special Notes provided the entertainment and kept up with guests' song requests including three for Rocky Top! The entire night was elegant and just want the bride & groom ordered. They arrived in a trolley and left in a white limosine.

Shannon & Brett were so much fun! Their wedding was very modern and tested my organization skills. Their wedding took place at Bookwalter United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN. The wedding had a theme of movies. Movie theme songs were used for the prelude and mother's processional. Movie quotes about love lined the reception's walls. The color scheme was exactly what Shannon wanted: classic black with a punch of fuschia. The florals done by Lisa Foster Designs expressed these colors truly! The bride had her Man of Honor next to her, and a groomswoman joined the line-up for Brett. It was a unique, original wedding; but it was truly Shannon & Brett. I loved this wedding and all the people who I got to work with. One of my favorite photographers finally got to work with me, Sabrina Dowdy from Photography By Sabrina. Lauren & Brett got married May 23, 2009 at Lily Barn in Townsend, N They were a fun and relaxed couple to work with. They were easy going and said "If we are married at the end of the day , that is what counts!" Everything went smoothly. The weather cooperated for the outdoor ceremony, and we even had a nice breeeze for the pavillion reception. I was most impressed with the Mother of the Bride's centerpieces. She constructed them with brances she ordered from Bloom n' Branches and beautiful crystals that caught just enough sunlight to sparkle. It was a fantastic evening! New Website

Okay so I know I was so excited when I first got my own website. Well when it was published some mistakes were made, and it has frustrated me for months. I now am getting a new website design. It should be up full functioning (if technology works with my and my designer)by end of July. I know it seems a long time, but life takes over sometimes. Matt & Carrie's Wedding was an experience for them and for me. With about 6 weeks til they said "I Do" I was notifed that help was needed. With only a few vendors booked it was quickly realized how much needed to get done. With alot of work and To Do Lists everything was planned. The bright colors reflected the bride's personality and charm. The groom was ready to indulge in his chocolate iced yellow poundcake. Have you seen "Bride Wars" yet? I went to see the film knowing it will never win an Oscar, it will be over the top, and just a silly movie. I was right and I loved it. The main characters played my Kate Hudson and Anne Hatheway are best friends. Their top wedding planner, Candice Burgen, accidentally schedules their weddings on the same date! The friends want each other to be in each other's weddings, but neither are willing to change their date and lose their dream wedding at The Plaza. So, it is every bride for herself. How far would you go to get what you wanted for your big day? Go with your girlfriends, and have a good laugh! Is any wedding worth true friendship?

The Wylie Sisters

I assisted on both of the sisters' weddings. Both sisters have different personalities and planned different weddings; but values were the same. Both couples chose church ceremonies. Jennifer and Trent lit their unity candle at Central Baptist Church. Emily & Darren poured their unity sand at Smithwood Baptist Church. Both couples decided to see each other before the ceremony. Jennifer walked calmy down the aisle with a huge smile upon her face and embraced Trent. Emily kicked off her shows and ran down the aisle nearly tackling Darren. Jennifer created her wedding with a theme of cognac browns and bright greens. Emily designed her wedding around acorn browns, oranges, and reds. Both brides enjoyed spending time with their bridesmaids and mothers. The third sister of the Wylie family, Leslie, had Emily's assistance with make-up at Jennifer's wedding. At Emily's wedding Jennifer automatically assited Leslie with her make-up. The bond between Emily, Jennifer, Leslie, and their mother remind me of my own family. Sisters can be very much alike, but are set apart on their wedding day.

The wedding of Jessica & Josh took place on a day filled with anticipation, nerves, and sentiment. The weather was unpredictable out on the dock of Tellico Yacht Club, and had many worried that the outdoor setting was not going to work. The bride hoped and prayed throughout the day for the best. The groom simply said “As long as I am married today, it does not matter.” Soon the clouds passed and everyone was nothing, but smiles for the rest of the day. The bride was presented to an emotional groom and soon Jessica & Josh were husband and wife. Guests enjoyed the relaxed and intimate atmosphere of the simple reception and in true Knoxville spirit the bride & groom even kept eyes on the UT football game. Everyone was thanked with a simple box of M&M’s in the appropriate color for Jessica & Josh Green.

Sarah & David’s wedding was not just a wedding it was a celebration. Taking place in the backyard of Sarah’s aunt overlooking the Chesapeake Bay; this affair was intimate, personal, and joyous in every way possible. Sarah stepped out of the guesthouse for her walk down the aisle with daisies in her hair and matching sunglasses. David just calmly smiled and knew everything was right. With their own vows, a family dedication, and butterflies flying through the air they were married. The reception was a celebration for both bride & groom families and all friends. Appropriate for the Maryland setting crab, scallops, and shrimp were the favorites. “Somewhere over the Rainbow” left no dry eyes as Sarah & her father began dancing. “Footloose” left no feet still as the reception continued into the night. As the first dance played, Sarah & David made everyone understand their relationship and now marriage, “It Feels Like Home.”

This past Sunday was a blast at the Premier Bridal Show. I had the best time meeting new brides and new vendors. My favorite new vendor as Sugarbuzz cakes. The staff was delightful and so sweet. The cakes were very moist, tasted fantastic, and looked amazing! I enjoyed seeing other vendors I know and catching up with the latest news. This January show was my first and I was so proud of how everything turned out. Thank you to all who helped and believed in me.

My website is still being finished. I soon hope to say it is complete. Over the holidays my husband and I moved so we are just now getting back to a some what normal life. I wish everyone a joyous and incredible new year!

August 23, 2008 was a day of joy, laughter, fun, and dancing as family and guests supported Megan and Monte through the day of their wedding. The ceremony was intimate, but cheerful taking place at Valley Grove Baptist Church Knoxville, TN. After departing on a trolley from the church the bride & groom were presented as Mr. & Mrs. Miller at their reception at the Knoxville Museum of Art. Guests quickly jumped to their feet to dance in joy for the couple, including "Thriller".The groom indulged in his Neyland stadium groom's cake, and everyone enjoyed gazing at the bride & her father dancing to classics. The evening ended with Megan and Monte speeding away in the a bright yellow vintage convertible.

April & TR became husband and wife on May 31, 2008 at First Christian Church Knoxville, TN. Everyone enjoyed and celebrated the love of April & TR the entire day. April was excited to get married and finally wear the dress she had dreamed about. TR was calm, ready, and trying to not get his white jacket dirty. They were made husband and wife with everyone's blessing and with everyone so proud. After pictures TR & April were presented to their guests at the L&N Station in downtown Knoxville. They enjoyed their keylime & strawberry tiered wedding cake and danced to all their favorite songs. The groomsmen arranged for a special departure in honor of the bride & groom's favorite movie "Back to the Future". They drove away in a DeLorean!

In the wedding business you plan and plan all the way to the day of the wedding,and even on the wedding day you are still planning making sure everything falls into line and planning the "what ifs". Then once the bride & groom are sent off by family and friends you are planning how to pack everything up and make sure it gets where it is supposed to go. After the day of the wedding the planning is over. You have created such a special bond with the bride, her family, the groom, and his family. You hate for that to be the end. Last night I got to visit with one of my wedding families. The wedding happened May 31, 2008 (photos are coming soon). After the wedding couple had returned from their honeymoon and the Parents of the bride had taken a much deserved vacation, we met for dinner at Calhoun's. It was nice to talk about the wedding, share the details, and have a laugh. We ended up having a 4 hour dinner, but I loved every moment. My husband, even though he was not at the wedding, fit right into conversations. It was like we were a part of their family. I cherish my relationship with April & TR and their families.

On June 29th, 2008 Kelly & Joseph tied the knot at Gettysvue Country Club. The day was filled with emotions as everyone prayed for beautiful skies, no rain, and cooler temperatures. Kelly was calm and collected ready to see her groom. Joseph was relaxed watching sports and was ready when ever it was time. The time came the skies were blue and the temperature was cooler. With the "I do's" said and 2 rings exchanged Kelly & Joseph were husband and wife. With an attitude of joy and laughter Kelly and Joseph greeted their guests in a room decorated with hydrangeas, lemons, and candles. The night ended with everyone on the dance floor (even the mother of the bride); and Mr. & Mrs. Nunn were sent off in crowd of sparklers.

The wedding of Sarah and Danny took place on October 6, 2007 at the Sundail Resort in Sanibel Island, Florida. Sarah and Danny set the tone for the whole week of the wedding with their relax and have fun tone. The wedding party arrived a few days before the wedding and all quickly became friends. The friendships made the wedding day even more fun and exciting. The ceremony took place on the sand at sunset where shoes were optional but happiness was required. Everyone celebrated the newly weds at their poolside reception dancing to the tunes of "You & I" byMichael Bubble, "Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts and "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.
